This is just a little thing. But I felt really prompted to share it, because it illustrates how important it is to listen to God over listening to our own natural knowledge.
I commute to work by BART (San Francisco Bay Area's equivalent of a subway). I drive from my house to the West Oakland BART station, which is about a 15 to 20 minute drive. Then I park as near the station as I can get (sometimes it is a long walk, sometimes a short one) and take the BART to San Francisco. Then I walk about 10 minutes from the SF BART station to work.
BART seems to frequently change their schedule. Last time I looked, which was quite a while ago, the first BART train of the day hit West Oakland about 4:15 AM and the next one wasn't until almost 5:00 AM. I did not pay a whole lot of attention to the early train schedule, cuz I don't normally arrive at the BART station until somewhere between 5:30 AM and 6:30 AM.
I woke up at 3:15 AM (more or less usual time for me).. had a quick prayer time and then went upstairs to use the computer (I often do GodSpeak ministry work in the wee hours of the morning before I leave for my secular job). As it turns out, my husband was up and working on the computer, so I could not use it. I talked to hubby a bit, took a shower and then prayed a bit more. Then about 4:15 AM God told me to leave now and go to work, to use the computer from work. I looked at the clock.
"But Lord," I complained, "I can't get there in time for the 4:15 train, and it's a long wait until the next one.. 45 minutes."
"Go now," the Lord replied, "this is in my timing.. it will work out."
Well, I've learned that it does not pay to argue with God, even when
you are positive He is wrong
You see, God knew the BART schedule had changed even though I did not
know it. What He told me was in direct conflict with my natural knowledge,
but it was correct.. God is so smart! When He tells us to do things
that seen in conflict with our natural knowledge or with common sense,
we need to remind ourselves that He really does know what He is doing
and trust Him and obey. It will all work out to His glory if we
let Him orchestrate our steps.
