He Even Takes Care Of The Little Things

(Mar 11, 2000)

I returned from a ministry trip to Syracuse late last Sunday evening, and immediately came down with a terrible flu that keep me sick and in bed all week. I had not even been week enough to unpack from the trip.

Today, Saturday, I had plans to meet some friends from Church and drive together one hour to San Jose to hear Bobby Conner. It was the first day in a week that I woke up without a headache, so I decided go to ahead and go. It was also my first shower in a week.. as I'd been very sick.

Somehow I got lost in the shower... it felt so good! I realized the time and that I was almost late. I hopped out of the shower and threw on some clothes. Most of my shirts were either in the dirty clothes hamper or were still packed.. so I grabbed one out of my suitcase.. throwing it on. I grabbed my shoes intending to put them on in the car and rushed out of the house. I did manage to get my shoes on and tied while stopped at some traffic lights. With all my rushing, I was only a few minutes late and my friends were still waiting for me.

We went in two cars.. my friend Brenda was driving the car I was in. About 10 minutes into the drive I noticed a slight unpleasant odor and began trying to figure out where it was coming from. I noticed my right arm was up. I lowered it and shortly afterwards the odor subsided.

Horrors!!

I suddenly realized that I'd worn this shirt last Saturday while preaching all day... and that I had not had a chance to wash it yet. There seemed to be a bit of body odor coming from my not so clean shirt. I was mortified and I asked Brenda if I smelled. She said that she did not notice anything.. but I certainly had noticed it. I tried raising my right arm again.. and there was no doubt that the shirt had a slight odor. I was mortified. How could I go to a public meeting with body odor??

During worship, I elected to stand way in the back and try to remember not to raise my arms. What a dilemma...

Then I saw the most unusual thing. The last 3 or 4 rows were almost empty. A man was standing there in the third to last row holding a bottle of Fabric Odor Eliminator. I kid you not!! I did I double take, I simply could not believe it! What on earth would someone be doing with a bottle of Fabric Odor Eliminator in a church service?

"What are you waiting for?" The Lord asked. "I put it there for you. Go ask him if you can use it."

So I walked up to the man and asked him if I could borrow that bottle of Odor Eliminator. He said "Sure" and handed it to me.

"I'll bring it back in a few minutes," I said, disappearing towards the lady's room. I took my shirt off, gave both under-arms of the shirt a good douse and then dried it with a paper towel. Then I did a smell check, and all was well.

I walked back out and handed him the bottle, thanking him so much. Then I felt led to say... "I bet you had no idea why on earth you brought that to church. It was for me.. I needed it for my blouse. I live an hour drive away and discovered the need when I was in a car-pool full of people heading over here."

"Actually," he replied. "I did not bring it. Someone walked up to me and handed it to me, telling me I would need it. So I stood there for a minute or two, wondering what on earth that was about. And then you came up and asked me to borrow it."

Wow! Is God good or what!

Right then the Lord spoke to me and said, "Teresa, know that your little needs are as important to me as your big ones, and you can trust me to meet all of your needs.. in miraculous ways, for I care greatly for you and I am faithful."

The story gets even a bit better... Bobby did some excellent teaching, but he did not do any ministry at the afternoon service. He promised to do some impartation ministry at the evening service, but I knew I could not come back that evening. So I told the Lord that I wished I could get Bobby to impart some prophetic anointing into me, and was disappointed that I could not come in the evening. After service, Bobby hung around the front area where some renewal style ministry was going on. The Lord had prompted me to go up and ask him to consider possibly doing a short teaching series for the prophetic-school list. Bobby asked me to send him an email with the details. Then I mentioned that I would be unable to come back that evening and felt bad about missing the impartation. He offered to pray briefly for me.. guess what he prayed for! Yes, he laid hands on me and asked the Lord to impart an increased measure of the prophetic into me.

Glory! Not only does the Lord take care of our little needs, He also takes care of our desires as well... what a wonderful God we serve!
