Just Judgments

(April 3, 2002)

I had a very interesting experience this morning. I was watching a show called people's court and the case I watched was about a building constructor who did a very poor job on a contract. He was trying to sue the person who hired him for the small portion of the fee that had not been paid. The job was done so poorly that the person had to pay someone else much more than the original fee to repair the damage done by the poor workmanship. I thought the right verdict would be to deny the "suit" for the unpaid balance ($1,000) and to order the contractor to return the $3,000 that had already been paid. The judge's verdict was that the contractor not be rewarded a single penny.

I turned off the TV, grabbed my jacket from the closet and was on my way to walk out of the house, get in my car and drive to work. I sort of murmured to the Lord about the verdict I'd just watched on TV. I said, "Lord, if it were up to me... I were the judge.. I would have required the contractor to return the $3000 he'd already been paid."

God said, clearly and distinctly to me. "Teresa, this is very important, listen carefully to what I am about to say."

As if to emphasize His point, God froze me in my tracks, mid-step, so I could not move. I was literally frozen like a statue. (I don't think I have ever had that happen to me before). It got my attention. I said, "Speak, Lord, your servant is listening."

Then He said, clearly and distinctly,

"Teresa, it is not up to you to judge others. I am the judge. You are My prophet. I decide the judgments and you declare them to others. You never judge, I am the one that judges. Period. I make the decision and you, as My spokesperson, communicate it to others. You never make the decision, you merely report what I decide."

Then He asked me, "Do you understand." I felt very sobered and I said, "Yes, sir." As soon as I acknowledged what the Lord said to me, I was unfrozen and I could move again.

That was certainly a sobering experience for me. I felt like I was supposed to share it with you...
