God Has Your Future In His Hands

In a vision the Lord showed me a man who was walking in a field with a few
trees providing cover around him. He was walking with Jesus by his side.
It was nearly sunset. As they walk together, the Lord talked to the man
and encouraged him and reassured him that His presence was with him
always. The man nodded in approval. Even though he received this, there
was a sense that he easily accepted this because he could physically see
Jesus and therefore knew that His presence was near.

They then came to a clearing in the field. As the man stared out into the
horizon, he saw the clearing extending for hundreds of miles-as far as his
eyes could see. He knew he had to walk through it, and was quite
apprehensive about it, but he is comforted by the thought that the Lord
was with him-- that is, until he turned around to find that the Lord was
gone.

He was scared, but he took a step of faith and began walking through the
clearing that looked more and more like a semi-desert as time went by.
The fact that there were not any more trees around him to provide a
"covering," left him feeling exposed and quite vulnerable. Suddenly a
soft wind began blowing towards him, and he heard a distinct small voice
saying "I am with You."

Comforted, the man continued his walk. Shortly afterwards, dark forms
began to appear and surround him. With intimidating voices, they started
to mock, saying, "Where is this Jesus that you serve?" These different
beings had tags with the names "doubt," "rejection," "fear" and "unbelief,"
among many others. I soon noticed that as they continually intimidate him,
their voices masqueraded as his own voice, so that he assumed that these
"thoughts" were actually coming from him. As he began to entertain these
voices, the ground beneath him started to wobble and shake, and before long
he realized that he was gradually sinking.

Feeling alone and having nothing to grab to save himself from sinking, he
threw his hands in the air and did the only thing that he could do--call
upon the name of the Lord.

His shoulders were seconds away from being totally immersed when a hand
grabbed him and with a burst of strength, pulled him up. He wiped the
sludge and muck off of his clothes, then turned round to see the Lord
standing beside him. The Lord touched him, then suddenly all the mud that
was on him quickly slide off his clothes without any effort. The unstable
ground below him solidified. The Lord put His arms around him and they
walked together into the horizon.

I sense that this vision speaks to many of Gods people who have been walking
in a season of knowing the Lords presence and the way He moves in their
lives, such that they have become comfortable and familiar with the way He
works and speaks to them. The trees in the field represent familiar
surroundings and coverings that have served well, but God wants to bring
you out of your comfort zones and familiar surroundings into new spiritual
territory. He wants to increase our faith and stretch our capacity to believe
him for greater things.

Satan on the other hand, wants us to walk in fear and doubt of what God has
called us to do, and his method is to lie to us and make us feel isolated
and alone. His purpose is to steal, kill and destroy (John 10:10)

But God is saying do not fear. Nothing that the enemy bring against you
will stand against you. No weapon formed against you shall prosper (Isaiah
54:17). Even if you feel you are "sinking" right now, God will lift you
out. Psalm 40:2 says, "He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the
mud and the mire. He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I
walked along." The Lord is saying "Get up. You may have fallen, but I
call you to get up. I am calling you into a brighter future that I have
already ordained for you."

Something that struck me in the vision was that the horizon was endless. It
had no limits. Do not limit God to what you have experienced before or what
someone has told you happened to them. God is has your future in His hands
and He wants to expand your horizons. He wants to give you a vision that
is bigger than yourself. He is calling for you to come up higher, be
willing to leave comfort zones and familiarities and be all that He has
called you be.
