You're probably not going to believe this because I hardly believe it myself. But I just had the most incredible thing happen to me. I had just logged on to my private account and was cleaning up my new-wine related mail (I get a lot of private correspondance from new-wine people). It took longer than I expected and was most of my lunch break. So I tried to call the Deli where I normally get a vegetreian burger for lunch. They simple would not answer their phone. After about the fifth or sixth try, I decided to give up and maybe skip lunch. But the Lord said to me, "Go on down" (I work on the 7th floor of a skyscraper in the Financial District of San Francisco. The Deli is on the ground floor of another building about a block away) "I have something very nice for you."
I figured that maybe they had a nice special at the Deli and I had to go there in person to see it. So I started towards the Deli. Just as I got out of the front door of my building, a lady walked by carrying a lovely bouquet of pink roses and baby's breath, with a bunch of fancy ribbons in it. It was so pretty that I smiled absently at her and then looked at the flowers, obviously admiring them. She stopped and handed them to me and said, "Would you like them?" I looked at her dumbfounded, wondering if she were serrious. She went on to explain that she was really mad at the guy and was planning to throw them away. I told her where I worked incase she changed her mind and wanted the flowers back. Then I went on to the deli -- it was closed because they'd run out of food.
On my way back to the office, the Lord reminded me that He had sent me out, telling me that He had something nice for me. The sole purpose of this trip was so that He could give these flowers to me.
The flowers have a deeper meaning than most people would realize. I have an absolute weakness for cut flowers and there is nothing I'd rather receive from my husband than flowers. But Ed feels that cut flowers are a waste of money because they die so soon. So he almost never gets me flowers and when he does, he gets me cheap ones. Every birthday, anniversary, valentines day, etc, I've always wished for a beautiful bouquet of roses like the one that was just handed to me today.
Some say that the renewal is all about "God romancing His Church." Let me tell you, I certainly feel romanced today!
