One day I cried out to the Lord in dismay, "Lord, I am so sad, she does not love me any more!"
God's answer startled me. "Teresa, I feel the same way!"
"Huh??" I was taken aback. "What do you mean, Lord?"
"So many of My children don't love Me. It makes me so sad. Sometimes it breaks My heart..."
I still did not get it. So God went on to remind me of John 14:15, where Jesus said, "If you love me, you will obey what I command" and of John 15:14, where He said "you are my friends if you do what I command." Then He went on to speak to me about the Lordship of Jesus in our lives. We are to obey God, to let Him be the "boss".. the one who is calling the shots. We are to obey Him because we love Him so much! That is what He expects from us.
Yet so few of us give that to Him.
Many of us get "wrapped up" in our own lives and ask God to bless what we are doing, instead of asking God what He is doing and then doing it with Him. Yes, we want God in our lives, but we want to live for ourselves and to follow our own agendas, to make our own plans.
God began to show me how this hurt His heart. He showed me how He had created us to be in close fellowship with Him, where He desires to be involved in our day to day lives and were He directs our path and orchestrates our steps. He wants us to allow Him to work in and through us.. to be ones who are totally and completely dedicated to walking out His Lordship in every area of our lives.
God loves us dearly, and the only reason we are able to love Him is because He first loved us and reached out to us while we were yet sinners. Now, He is inviting each of us into intimate friendship with Him.. but He defines that friendship with Him being our Lord/Boss.. of Him being the One to call the shots and of us being committed to do what He tells us because we love Him so much!
Some of us have answered that call and are doing our best to walk out His Lordship in every area of our lives. Some of us are just learning what that means and just beginning to explore how to do that. Some of us are having trouble dying to our own plans/agendas and do not really want to give God Lordship in our lives. Some of us have fears to overcome.. we are afraid that maybe He does not really desire good for us and if we let Him be boss of our lives, He will make us do things that make us miserable.
The fact remains, God loves us and wants us to walk in a love relationship with Him. He has defined clearly what that means.. we are to keep His sayings.. to obey Him, to allow Him to be "boss" or Lord of every area of our lives.
Let's pray:
Lord, please give us hearts after Your heart. Make it our passion and desire to please You and to be committed to obey You. Help us to learn to walk out Your Lordship in every area of our lives. Strengthen us in our resolve to demonstrate our love to You by obeying You. Give us pure hearts before You. Renew our passion for You, teach us what it means to walk in Your lordship and empower us to do so!We love You Lord. Amen.
