The Reality of God's Healing Power

by Rusty Russell

Lesson 3
He Sent His Word And Healed Them

One of the most famous passages in many people's minds who are seeking healing is Ps 107:20: "He sent His word and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions." Many times God will use His Scripture to convey to us the faith needed to believe in Him that He is able and willing to heal our bodies and remove our diseases.

Many times when receiving a rhema word, (spiritual revelation or insight on a certain Scripture) the resulting revelation is taken out of context of the fuller meaning of the Scripture. I remember several years ago my mother-in-law, June Cooper, was diagnosed as needing emergency surgery. During our wait in the room provided at the hospital, a doctor emerged and gave us the bad news that they were losing the battle in the operating room for Mrs. Cooper and we should call in the family and make the proper arrangements.

After calling one of her sons, Tom, I went immediately to the chapel provided in this hospital to pray and intercede for Mrs. Cooper's life. Upon entering the chapel, I noticed two people sitting just talking, but not praying. I went to the altar and cried out, "Oh God I need Your help now!" I prayed this way for a reason, when I turned the two people had slipped out quickly. Now I could concentrate on interceding in tongues and praying to God. After about 5 or 10 minutes had passed, I became quiet in my heart and voice, although I was still pacing the floor with my heart in meditation and prayer before God.

Then I heard His voice speak to me. "Rusty! Ezekial chapter 16!" When I heard Jesus voice speaking in my heart, I rushed to the altar and searched through the Bible. In my mind I was praying 'Oh Lord, let there be 16 chapters in that book!" (It had been a time since I had read in those chapters.) Thankfully, there are about 48 chapters! Then I prayed, 'Oh Lord, let there be at least 6 verses!' Thankfully, there were more than 6!

"Rusty," Jesus said, "read Ezk. 16:6 out loud and pray it!" (This is the Scripture that I found): "And when I passed by you and saw you struggling in your blood, I said to you in your blood, LIVE! Yes, I said to you in your blood, LIVE!" Wow! What a word of deliverance and healing! His word was sent to me, to pray and proclaim and release in faith her healing. I prayed this Scripture several times until I knew, IT IS FINISHED, SHE IS HEALED!

I returned to the waiting room where more of the family was gathering. I announced that she will not die but live! The family thought I had lost my mind. I said again, "She will live and not die!" They as one man got up and moved to the other side of the room. Because they knew what the doctor said, "She was dying." I stood on that promise and prayer for 45 minutes until the doctor came back to declare that something strange had happened.

"About 50 minutes ago, we found the perforation in Mrs. Cooper's stomach where her ulcer had been hemorrhaging from. We were able to sow that area up and replace the blood she has lost. She will live and not die!!!!" Praise the Lord! I knew that 45 minutes earlier by the Spirit of God! They replaced 21 pints of blood, your body only holds 8 normally I think. Interesting note: this Scripture was talking about an aborted baby, but God used it to give me specific prayer direction for this moment, that is His prerogative.

Jesus sends His word and heals us. Are you listening to His still small voice? He is waiting to give you all you need to fight the battles of faith and win.

It is important for us to express our thankfulness and gratitude to the Lord when He moves on our behalf. I encourage you to read this Scripture out loud and believe for faith. Praise and thankfulness to God will erupt within you! And you will please Jesus. Ps 107:1-3 says,

"Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever. Let the redeemed of the Lord say so."
(Say "I, am redeemed!" You don't have to feel redeemed, just proclaim it to the earth and heavens!)
Whom He has redeemed from the hand of the enemy. And gathered out of the lands, from the east, and the west, and the north and the south.....
verse 8 continues:
Oh, that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men! For He satisfies the longing soul, and fills the hungry soul with goodness....
verses 20-22 say:
He sent His word and healed them, and delivered them from their destruction's. Oh, that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men! Let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and declare His works with rejoicing.

God still does wonderful works today. He wants to rise up mighty on your behalf. He wants to redeem you from the hand of the enemy, even when that enemy is physical sickness. He wants to satisfy your soul with goodness, He wants to heal your body and He wants to deliver you from destruction, just as He has said in His word. There are many Scriptures where God explicitly states His will for your healing and your wholeness and your physical, spiritual and emotional well being. Let the Holy Spirit point some out to you and make them "real" for your own situation. Allow faith to permeate you as God speaks His truth to you from His word.

The Holy Spirit wants to add His Rhema (the faith, the yes and amen in your spirit, His words of life and healing to you) as you read His written word. God wants to quicken Scripture to you for your specific situations.
