Report 5 from Honk Kong
(Tuesday Sept 12, 2006)

There is not a whole lot to report from yesterday. It was sort of an average type of day. I had lunch with one of the ladies who helped organize the conference and we walked through Kaloon park for a while. It is very pretty and very pleasant. In the evening I spoke at a small church that is walking-distance from my hotel. The Lord anointed my preaching and it went really well. It was your basic good service--but nothing extraordinary happened at it.

I did meet an American missionary and her son, who are attached to that church, as well as a missionary from the Philippians who spent a great deal of time in mainland China and now is in Hong Kong. These are the people who do the "grunt work" the day-in and day-out faithful ministry. Most days you don't have something spectacular to write about because they minister from everyday life, but these are the people who effect lives a lot more than I do. I just fly in and do a few special events-- these special events tend to be power packed, but the daily real-life ministry is what mot effects the lives of the people.

This church ministers to both the local Cantonese people (who are very shy and traditional) and also to the English-speaking Philippine community in Hong Kong. They do a lot of practical ministry, like helping the people with addictions and problems, like providing a dormitory for the Philippine women to live in when they are between jobs and have no where else to go, etc.

I am writing a bit about them to give you a taste of what longer-term missions is like. I think sometimes people get a skewed impression of missions from reading my story. I am sort of a short-term special event to help assist the long term people who do the real work. Part of the reason it is so powerful is because it is short-term...God has to pack a lot of anointing into a relatively short number of days. I provide the event that either makes converts or equips indigenous believers to win their own nation, but these long-term missionaries do the follow-up and discipleship. They also do the "grunt work" of being a witness day-in and day-out, earning people's trust by being there for them and demonstrating the love of Jesus over and over again. Their job may not seem as fun or glamorous as holding power packed special event, but it is where the real work of missions gets done. So be sure to remember the long-term missionaries in your prayers as well.

The plan for today is to go sightseeing in the day and in the evening I will be ministering (mostly prophesying) to a group of about 15 key leaders in the area. Please pray that God gives me keen and powerful words for them.

Tomorrow I have to pack again and get ready to check out of my hotel. I will be leaving for Macau Thursday evening and I probably will not have internet access to keep writing these reports for the duration of the trip. I will try to write some summaries of what God did no Macau and Mainlnad China when I get home, but they may not be as detailed.
