I. Guidelines for giving a word:

  1. Seek to edify, exhort and comfort for the edifying of the Body of Christ (1Cor.14:3,12)

Perhaps one of the biggest misconceptions people have of prophetic ministry is that it should be ministered in a judgmental, condemning or in a rebuking way. While prophets may speak of judgment, it is reserved for the mature who function in the office of the prophet and who are recognized as such in the Body of Christ.

  2. Flow within the accepted protocol of the particular church or setting you are in.

From church to church or group there are various protocols for various reasons. Often in home meetings there will be already established relationships and much greater liberty, but some larger churches desire all prophetic ministry to be spoken into the public address system simply so that all may hear. Some churches have an open mike for any and all "body ministry" to come forth. Some churches have a system of "clearing" words to be spoken. It is important to understand that most pastors are simply attempting to exercise their responsibility to guard their flock from unknown visitors who may or may not have a word that is appropriate for those he is responsible to lead. Usually, the larger the assembly, or the newer the individual is to a group, the more caution a leader will take in releasing public prophetic ministry. Find out the protocol of your particular setting and follow it.

  3. Avoid giving directive words to the congregation.

Although God may give a participant a word that would change the entire direction or flow of a service, the responsibility for that decision is ultimately given to the leadership by God and should be channeled through them. DON'T be offended if your word in held back.

  4. Remain teachable.

Be willing always to have a word judged. If the nature of the word is a personal prophecy a good policy is to have a witness with you, or to in some way record what is spoken. (cassette recorders, written out words, etc.)

  5. Avoid "religious" mannerisms such as 16th century english... spitting on the person in front of you... falling down and shaking... unless God does that to you... <grin>

II. Guidelines for receiving a word

  1. A. Judge the word
    • Does it stand up to scriptural principles and truths
    • Does in bear witness to your spirit. (though not necessarily your mind or emotions)
    • Does in produce the fruit of righteousness, peace and joy within your heart, (vs. anxiety, confusion or fear)

  2. Understand the conditional nature of ALL prophecy.

All the promises of God are conditional including prophetic promises, whether stated or not. Conditional upon factors such as faith, obedience, timing, etc.

  3. If it is determined that a word is from God, several things can be done to cooperate with God in the fulfillment of the word.
    • Mingle the word with faith (all of the provisions, grace and promises of God are received by faith)
    • War with the word: "pray it in" - i.e. petition, spiritual warfare, etc,
    • Understand prophetic "timing" - the Kingdom of God arrived as a baby in Bethlehem, it was 30 years before anybody other that about a dozen people even knew it.
    • Understand prophetic "terminology" pay close attention to what was actually said and what those terms mean in scripture.
    • Understand prophetic "dis-jointedness". Within one sentence may be several differing parts and times of fulfillment.

III. The "dos'" and "don't's" for prophetic activations in a training environment - explaining the boundaries of a "training" environment.

  1. Judge all prophecy - hold fast to that which is good.

  2. Do not make any major life or directive decisions based on words given in this context unless confirmed by other sources of guidance. i.e. The Word, spiritual authorities over your life, spouses and other family members , other sources of counsel, confirmations through personal peace, circumstances, witness by others involved with a decision, etc.

  3. Do not use words regarding your calling, ministry or destiny as "ammunition" to inform your pastor that he needs to recognize you and your ministry "or else".

  4. Offer words to recipients rather than insist your word is the "undeniable oracles of God" remembering the words you give can and should be judged.

  5. Do not become offended if a trainee "misses it" on something offered to you.

  6. We want to clarify that this course is not one to 'pass or fail'. The intention of the course is that we will learn and grow together in the prophetic. It doesn't not qualify anyone to the ministry or the office of a prophet. At all times we must respect our local churches, their leadership and the fellow members of this mailing list. Please consult your local leadership about how to give words, visions, etc, if this course leads you into new areas of the prophetic. As always directive and corrective prophecy should be first submitted to leadership.

IV Introduction to the various formats for the "prophetic school" conference.

  1. A. Locally formed groups.

One way to utilize these training exercises would be to form a small group (6 or more people) in your local area who will be willing to go through the lessons and the activations and "practice" on one another. NOTE: you must form your own local Group, the prophetic-school does not form local groups for people.

  2. IRC chat groups

We will offer the option of meeting at pre-designated times on pre-designated IRC (Internet Relay Chat) channels for "live chat" activations. NOTE: to participate in this, you must have downloaded an IRC server (such as mIRC or ircle) and already know how to use IRC.

  3. AOL chatroom groups

We will offer the option of meeting at pre-designated times in a pre-designated AOL Chatroom for "live chat" activations. NOTE: you must be an AOL subscriber to participate in this.

  4. AOL IM chatroom groups

We will offer the option of meeting at pre-designated times in a pre-designated AOL Chatroom for "live chat" activations. NOTE: you do not need to be an AOL subscriber to participate in this, but you must download the free AOL IM software if you don't already have it. It can be downloaded from AIM download.

  5. ICQ groups

We will offer the option of meeting in a small group on ICQ at a pre-designated time and location for "live chat" activations. NOTE: to participate in an ICQ group, you must already have ICQ loaded on your machine and be able to supply your ICQ number.

  6. E-mail partners

Another format for the practice activations will be to have an assigned "partner" within the "prophetic-School" list with whom you will do the exercise. The assigned partner will vary from lesson to lesson.
